“He led me all around among the bones that covered the valley floor. They were scattered everywhere across the ground and were completely dried out. Then he asked me, ‘Son of man, can these bones become living people again?’ ‘O Sovereign Lord,’ I replied, “you alone know the answer to that.’”  Ezekiel 37:1-3 (NLT)

Dry bones – awakened – Hope renewed!

Now you might say “What does Ezekiel 37 have to do with your weight loss journey?”  Very good question!  I read Ezekiel 37 the other day and it brought to my mind how I felt about my physical health, prior to coming to the Ketogenic way of eating and living.  I felt like my weight loss desire (and ability to do anything about it) were just “dead and dried bones”.  I had tried many “so-called” solutions to weight loss and to better health in the past (please read my post titled “My Keto Lifestyle Transformation“), which all ended in failure.

Have you ever had those times in life where you felt like your life was like a bag of dry bones?  You felt like you had nothing left and you couldn’t go another round of whatever you were dealing with – health issues, relationship issues, financial issues, or a personal issue.  I certainly have felt that way many times and in every one of those issues.

One such issue, for me that was like “dead bones” (and which I could never go another round with) was trying to lose the excess weight I was carrying around with me.  As I got older, and after multiple failures, I just got to the point of throwing up my hands and saying “forget it, I can’t do this again”.  Several years ago it took everything within me to stir up the muster to give Weight Watchers a try again, and again I failed at that after a few months.

I prayed so many times to the Lord that I would be able to overcome this misery of obesity, poor health, inability to say “no” to foods that consumed me (simple carbohydrates like pasta, bread, candy, sweets of all kind), and to say ‘yes” to healthier whole foods.  I know without a doubt that God heard my earnest prayers and when the timing was right He answered my prayers.  He led me to the Keto Diet.

Now, I know there might be those who are saying “Aren’t you taking Ezekiel 37 out of context?” and I could very well be doing just that but what I am trying to relate here is that even when we think that the “dried and dead bone” areas of our lives have no chance of becoming “refreshed and alive again” we can confidently say “nothing is impossible with God” Luke 1:37 (NLT). He renews our hopes and He breathes new life into our “dried and dead bones”!

It took until I was 63 years old for God to bring about my answer to my prayer but He answered it in His perfect timing.  All I can say is “Thank You, Lord!”
