Importance of Learning

Tomorrow, August 6, 2019, marks 2 years since I started my ketogenic journey or at least eating keto.

The journey, for me, started months earlier when I started researching and ingesting (no pun intended) as much information as I could on this way of eating and living. I did not want to just start another diet or weight loss program, or regimen since I had done all of those things in the past plus more – even going to the extreme of bariatric surgery. I wanted to learn what was behind this way of living and eating. I wanted to understand the science behind it.

Power of Educating Yourself

For anyone who is considering making the change from the standard American diet to the Ketogenic diet, I would advise them not to take my word for it but FIRST, learn and educate themselves. There is SO much power in being educated in this way of eating. I am not just talking about losing pounds but rather improving your overall health. It is important to learn and have a better understanding of how your body works and what it does with the foods you ingest and what damages are being done to your body by eating a high carb, high sugar, low-fat, vegetable oil-filled diet -the Standard American Diet a.k.a. SAD. There is power in having this knowledge when you walk into your physicians examining room and you can ask questions regarding your health – that you had never asked before – and make wise decisions about your overall health.

It is a Gift

I consider this way of eating (WOE) and living (WOL) to be a gift and I believe it was a gift given to me from God via my sister. James writes in the New Testament “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.” James 1:17 It is a “good gift” and it is a “perfect gift” for me.

More to Learn

I have not stopped educating myself on this lifestyle. My way of thinking about food is evolving as I go on living this way. I am looking at food more and more as medicine for my body and not an emotional “fix” for what was ailing me from stress or using it as a distraction or for a pleasure source. I still have much more to learn.

Goals Met

My first two goals when I first started this journey were to lose weight and to reverse my prediabetes. Both of which I have done. I have lost close to 104 pounds and I am no longer prediabetic. I am no longer on blood pressure medicine. There have been SO MANY other health benefits, such as reduced inflammation – I used to have a lot of problems with my left knee and that has greatly reduced. Movement is now a delight for me!!! Socially I feel more comfortable. Let’s face it, when you are extremely overweight it is uncomfortable to sit in a booth at a restaurant, fly on an airplane or sit at a movie theater. I just feel better!

I do not feel like I have given anything up – I just enjoy delicious real food. I don’t feel deprived – I am satisfied.

Pointing You in the Right Direction

If you are interested (or know someone interested) in making a life change to a low-carb, Ketogenic way of living I urge you (them) to educate yourself (themselves) – it is the first step in the right direction. Please visit my Resource Page as a starting point since the information there is where I started on my journey.

Many are out to sell their potions and plans in the low-carb Keto world but you don’t need any of that…I haven’t nor should you…. but please be aware of that. It is about eating REAL WHOLE FOODS – NOT foods manufactured in a food plant.

Resources I trust

These are all free resources and I am thankful, to God, for them. These are just a few:
